The County Prosecuting Attorney is elected to a four year term.
Responsibilities of
the Prosecuting Attorney are:
Prosecution of all crimes that violate state laws, ranging from traffic tickets to
murder. The Prosecuting Attorney does not prosecute local ordinances, the office
has exclusive jurisdiction over all felony crimes committed in Texas County and misdemeanor
offenses which occur in the unincorporated areas of the county. The types of crimes
the office becomes involved with include but are not limited to: alcohol related
offenses, traffic offenses, domestic violence, drug offenses, forgery and fraud,
burglary and stealing, white collar crime, criminal non-support, arson, child physical
and sexual abuse, sexual assault and homicides.
Bad Check Collection: Collects and prosecutes bad checks and reimburses victims
of bad checks.
Child Support: Enforces Child Support obligations and prosecutes non-payment.
Victim
Services: Meets with victims of crimes to insure they understand the prosecution
process and coordinates any plea bargain cases before court appearances.
The Prosecuting
Attorney serves as Legal Counsel for Texas County in all matters of the law. Investigations
of crimes committed in the county.
Represents the county in claims against the county and draws contracts relating to
business of the county. He advises the county in all manners in which the county
may have an interest.
